Mineral Services is a dynamic, internationally respected consulting company and laboratory that specialises in providing expert services to the exploration and mining industry. Diamonds have historically been the company’s focus but it also offers services in a range of other commodities.
Mineral Services has extensive experience in all phases of kimberlite exploration and evaluation, from area selection for the initiation of grassroots projects to full participation in feasibility studies and geological support during mining operations.
The group’s chairman, Dr John Gurney, is a recognised international leader in diamond research and has pioneered technology that is today extensively used in exploration and evaluation projects worldwide. The company’s diamond laboratories have established a reputation as international leaders in this sector and operate from advanced technical facilities in Canada and South Africa.
The staff at Mineral Services comprises a diverse group of professional geologists, geochemists and geophysicists with mining and exploration experience in both primary and marine diamond deposits, as well as geographical information system (GIS) specialists, mineral sorters, mineral analysts, sample processing technicians, information technologists and administrative personnel.
The team is backed by an infrastructure that includes modern analytical instruments and computer systems, proprietary evaluation techniques, a worldwide kimberlite database, comprehensive geographical information systems and the field equipment and logistical experience required to efficiently undertake exploration and evaluation programmes in remote areas.
Mineral Services’ expertise is deployed by a wide range of companies involved in diamond exploration and the company is involved in the development and evaluation of kimberlite pipes around the world.
It played a key role in the discovery and evaluation of the Ekati Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories of Canada and continues today as a consultant in ongoing feasibility studies for expansions to the mine. Mineral Services has also participated in successful exploration programmes for a variety of other commodities in southern and central Africa.
